It is an important goal of the Pujiang Basic Science Development Forum to accelerate the establishment of a highland of mathematics research in Shanghai and to create a good academic environment for full exchanges between researchers in basic mathematics research and related applied researchers.
For a long time, Shanghai has been an important center of mathematics research in China. In just over 10 years, the Shanghai Mathematical Center was established in 2012. It has been at the forefront of international research in important research directions such as algebraic geometry, dynamical systems and algebraic topology, and has published more than 300 papers in world-class journals.
In 2018, the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission integrated forces from all parties to establish the Shanghai National Center for Applied Mathematics.
