"Living with Borrowed Life" is adapted from the novel of the same name by Shi Yifeng, winner of the Lu Xun Literature Award. It tells the story of Du Xiangdong (Qin Hao), a top student at a police academy, who was assigned to a detention center against his will in the early 1990s. Two suspects under his care, Xu Wenguo (Han Geng) and Yao Binbin (Shi Pengyuan), accidentally escaped, which kicked off the story of prison guard Du Xiangdong's relentless pursuit for more than 20 years.

Director Lu Chuan rarely steps into TV dramas. He once directed "Extraordinary Doctor" starring Zhang Wanyi, which will be broadcast in 2023. Last year, Lu Chuan's reputation plummeted because of the movie "749 Bureau". In recent years, he has also tried to direct dance dramas, and "Heavenly Creations" toured the country. Another screenwriter of "Borrowing Life to Live" Xiong Yuzhen is also one of the screenwriters of the high-scoring criminal investigation drama "Trident 2". The leading actors Qin Hao and Shi Pengyuan have collaborated on dramas such as "The Hidden Corner" and "The Long Season".
