The first deep-sea drilling vessel "Dream" independently designed and constructed by China was officially commissioned in Guangzhou on November 17. This marks a significant breakthrough in our country's key technology for deep-sea exploration. The drilling system of the "Dream" is internationally advanced, with a maximum drilling depth of 11,000 meters, capable of four drilling modes and three core sampling methods.
It is expected to assist global scientists in achieving the scientific dream of "penetrating the Earth's crust and reaching the deep interior of the Earth," providing substantial support for China's deep-sea resource exploration, the development of key technological equipment, and for global scientists conducting ocean scientific drilling research.
The "Dream" vessel was proposed and approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Natural Resources, with the China Geological Survey under the Ministry responsible for organizing and executing the project, in collaboration with various entities including the China Shipbuilding Group to complete the design and construction tasks.
