Pujiang Innovation Forum | Sixth Year of Low-Carbon Technology Exchange: Shaping a New Landscape for the Future Energy Industry and Promoting Global Expansion

On September 9th, the 2024 Pujiang Innovation Forum—Green Low Carbon Innovation Forum was held in the Hongkou District of Shanghai, co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.

Over the past six years, this global platform for green technology exchange has seen its influence continue to rise.

To promote the implementation of the Ministry of Science and Technology's "Belt and Road" Sustainable Development Technology Cooperative Program, and with the support of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center released the "Low Carbon Technology Innovation Cooperation China (Shanghai) Exchange Program" this past June.

At the forum on September 9th, key figures including Guan Yetong, a standing committee member and vice mayor of Hongkou District, Zheng Guohong, a second-level inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Wang Zhen, director of the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center, and Ma Minxiang, vice president of the Yunnan Academy of Science and Technology jointly launched the "Low Carbon Technology Innovation Cooperation China (Shanghai) Exchange" activity: 13 low carbon partners from over 10 countries including Brunei, Egypt, and Indonesia will participate in a six-day Low Carbon China tour, engaging face-to-face with key universities, research institutes, and companies in Shanghai to establish a multi-party communication mechanism and promote the sharing of international experiences and results.

This year's Green Low Carbon Innovation Forum, themed "Technological Innovation Shaping the New Landscape of the Future Energy Industry," focused on exploring future energy development pathways and accelerating the establishment of a virtuous cycle system of "technology-industry-finance."

In her speech, Guan Yetong, standing committee member and vice mayor of Hongkou District, stated that the frequent natural disasters and unsustainable resource issues caused by global warming have become major challenges faced by humanity as a whole. China's technology revolution centered on green low carbon technology is not only an effective response to current environmental changes but also a solemn commitment to all mankind. In recent years, Hongkou District has unwaveringly promoted the carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategy, actively driving a comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development; it has gathered a number of functional platform institutions and many upstream and downstream companies within the green low carbon service industry chain, creating a relatively complete new pattern of the green low carbon service industry, focusing on five key areas: green shipping, green finance, green trade, green technology, and carbon asset trading, to promote the virtuous cycle development of "technology-industry-finance."

Zheng Guohong, second-level inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, remarked in his address that in recent years, Shanghai has consistently been at the forefront of energy technology innovation, focusing on hot fields such as clean energy, smart grids, new energy storage, hydrogen energy, and fuel cells. The city has continuously promoted a number of major science and technology projects, achieving significant results that are internationally competitive. Looking ahead, Shanghai will further increase research and development of forward-looking and disruptive technologies in energy fundamental science, focus on common and key technological equipment layout and leadership; deepen industry-university-research cooperation to bring energy technology from the lab to the market, truly benefiting economic and social development; and strengthen international cooperation to share energy innovation achievements and jointly tackle energy challenges.

During the signing segment, Anhui Yingmian Technology Co., Ltd. and the Green Technology Bank (Shanghai) Technology Development Co., Ltd. signed the "Key Technology Development and Application Demonstration Agreement for Methanol Enhanced Power Ships" and the "Green Low Carbon Shipping Cooperation Framework Agreement" with Shanghai Maritime University. These collaborations aim to deepen industry-university-research cooperation and continue advancing the application of methanol fuel in the transportation sector of the Yangtze River Delta, providing strong support for the region's integrated green low carbon shipping development.

Additionally, the Green Technology Bank (Shanghai) Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Wuhan Carbon Neutral Industry Development Service Co., Ltd. signed a "Dual Carbon Cooperation Strategic Agreement" to jointly establish a "Carbon Footprint Service Public Platform." This platform focuses on the precise calculation of carbon footprints while integrating functions such as ESG digital management and CBAM intelligent auxiliary reporting, providing enterprises with one-stop solutions for green transformation and supporting the construction of national carbon market centers and carbon financial centers in both Wuhan and Shanghai.

In the thematic report segment, experts including Wang Hualin, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice Dean of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering at East China University of Science and Technology, and Fan Bin, Chairman of Kunshan GCL Photovoltaic Materials Co., Ltd., shared insights on topics including "Carbon Neutrality Goals Driving Green Low Carbon Design Innovation" and "Progress Report on the Industrialization of Perovskite Stacked Components."
