Submitting to these journals is risky!
On the morning of January 31, 2023, the 2023 "International Journal Early Warning List (Trial)" was officially "released".
The high-stakes alert is designed to curb issues of academic misconduct, such as journals involving batches of papers from "paper factories."
The above-mentioned early warning list is updated and released by the journal division table team of the Documentation and Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in combination with the results of expert consultation and the performance of measurement indicators.
28 English academic journals in 9 disciplines were alerted. Among them, there are 9 books in the field of medicine, the largest number; 7 books in the field of engineering technology, followed by the number.
6 journals were classified as high-risk early warning, 3 of which belonged to the medical category.
Another 11 journals were listed as medium-risk early warning, and 11 journals were listed as low-risk early warning.
According to reports, the high-risk early warning aims to curb academic misconduct, such as journals involving batches of papers from "paper factories"; the medium-risk early warning aims to promote the international dissemination of my country's academic achievements and optimize the use of my country's scientific research funds. The internationalization of the author base and reader base of the relevant journals is low, and the paper processing fee is unreasonable; the low-risk warning is to remind scientists that there is a risk of a sudden drop in academic influence of the relevant journals.
According to the news released by the journal division table team of the Documentation and Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, journal early warning is not an evaluation of papers, let alone a denial of every achievement published by early warning journals. Early warning journals are designed to remind researchers to carefully choose the platform for publication of results, and remind publishers to strengthen journal quality management.
Earlier, it was publicly reported that the journals of the three major OA (Open Access) publishers were "blacklisted" by Zhejiang Gongshang University. On January 3, 2023, the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Science and Technology of Zhejiang Gongshang University announced that according to the collective voting results of the academic committee of the school, from 2023, the series of journal articles published by Hindawi, MDPI and Frontiers will not be included in scientific research performance statistics.
According to the school’s notice on “2022 Individual Scientific Research Performance Statistics Work”, all annual scientific research performance statistics work will be reported online. Academic papers are one of the indicators of relevant scientific research performance. In addition, it also includes books, award-winning achievements, patents, and scientific research projects.
